YOUNG JUNE LEW
11 SEP - 24 OCT, 2015
Andrew Bae Gallery is pleased to announce that we will present Young June Lew’s solo exhibition beginning on the 11th of September. Young June Lew had been creating paintings of figure-less garments for more than a decade before taking a discernible step forward with the faces of “Ordinary Saints”. Lew changes course to inject her body of work with warmth and humanity, evolving from empty dress forms to solemn “saints". Her new paintings embody all of their former charm, yet a thematic element solidly exposes her new direction; as the assembled figures stare at an undisclosed spectacle they invite contemplation of their collective gaze. Select large-scale works contain applied pearls while others are severely abstracted forms in gold.
